Golden Retrievers require some grooming maintenance to keep the amount of floating hair around your home at bay. Regular nail trims (taking care not to cut the nail too short), cleaning the ears and brushing (hair and teeth) is recommended.
Start at a young age so your pup will be used to how the grooming process feels and sounds. If your uncomfortable doing some or all of the grooming, there are many respected groomers able to help or ask your vet.

Golden retrievers are golden retrievers, they're just "different styles of the same breed". They both make great family pets and come in many different shades of gold from cream to dark mahogany, The differences are due to breeding for different purposes:
- The Field Golden is bred to hunt, retrieve, work and be active all day. They are bred for personality, intelligence and drive. The Show golden is bred for a certain look, based on breed standard, what is set out at conformation events.
- The Field Goldens are athletic, smaller and slimmer allowing them to run, jump and swim all day. heads are usually "wedge-shaped." The Show Goldens are bigger, thicker, stockier and "big-boned." with heads that are more "blocky".
- Field Goldens personality is more driven, loving and aim to please. Show Goldens tend to be more sociable, typically friendlier, loving and aim to please.
- Field Goldens are bred to hunt all day, lots of energy! Show Goldens tend to not be as energetic,
-Field Goldens are bred to have darker coats of gold, they’re usually shorter and therefore have less fur to shed and are easier to maintain. Show Goldens have long coats with long feathers, their colouring can range from the light cream to darker gold. They shed excessively. Grooming is required for both!
-Field Goldens love to train, love being busy and active. This can be in the field, on a hunt, agility, therapy, search and rescue, family camping trips, hikes and catch in the back yard. This is where they thrive and are happiest. They love it and need lots of it! Show Goldens are intelligent, people pleasers. they love treats and praise. They may need slightly less work than the field golden because they weren't bred for such drive and the need for a job.
